Forest 44 is mostly a place for horseback riding, but there's hiking to be had. It appears to be run almost exclusively for riders, and for the horse boarding businesses in the area:

The Conservation Department website has the usual information. I might like to go back when there are fewer people on horseback, and hike way back into the park on the horse trails.

Forest 44 shows a lot of evidence of past livestock raising. For example, there's this spring, which has been excavated out of a stream bank. I've seen similar spring improvements in other places.

There's a short trail dedicated to hikers, and a couple of overgrown pastures that invite exploration away from the trail. Such places offer a welcome sense of solitude, all the more remarkable given that they're only 10 minutes from I-270.
